Noon – 1 p.m., Feb. 17, 2026

This AI Insights session, presented with the Office of Responsible AI (ORAI), features two University of Arizona Writing Programs sessions on how generative AI is reshaping writing instruction and assessment.

Dr. Shelley Rodrigo and Josh Barrows present Writing Programs: Instructor Experiences and Faculty Support, sharing findings from a Fall 2025 program improvement project surveying instructors’ beliefs and attitudes toward GenAI, showing a wide spectrum of perspectives, and a key pattern where instructors tend to be more willing than interested, and more interested than excited about GenAI’s role in education.

Amelia Herb presents Beyond the Red Pen: Generative AI and the Transition Towards Scalable, Empathetic, Multidisciplinary Writing Evaluations, arguing that AI can offload repetitive diagnostic grading to support faster, more consistent feedback while preserving human judgment, equity, and student voice, highlighting tools like Brisk Teaching and emphasizing transparent, rubric-based, explainable assessment.
